2011 Budget Crisis
In a year where many thought it could not be done, the Legislature managed to agree on a budget that was called “a triumph of the middle”. The Children’s Alliance and Chambers of Commerce agreed and praised the budget as a bi-partisan success.

Transportation
As state Transportation Chair I often look at the needs of the whole state. It is part of my job to keep Washington Moving. That means I look for projects that are important in connecting all parts of the state and the economy.

Education
Education is the paramount duty of the state. Education is funded by the General Fund. (Gas taxes cannot be used to help with education and General Fund dollars do not help fund transportation). Because of the McCleary decision early this year, the state is required to more completely fund basic education. This is by far the most important issue in the Legislature.

As a nurse, I have first-hand experience with many of the health care issues facing our community. I am dedicated to improving our state's system for physical and mental health services, and have been deeply involved in a variety of legislation as a member of the House Health Care and Wellness Committee.
